Design
The BYD Yuan Up is a 5-seater compact electric SUV with a spacious interior. It will apparently become the first A0-class SUV to ride on the e-Platform 3.0.
BYD has yet to announce the new Yuan Up’s dimensions. However, regulatory filings revealed that the model will be bigger than the Dolphin EV with a slightly shorter wheelbase.
It has a modern design, with a closed-type front grille. It features black decorative panels and a Yuan logo.
It also sports extended headlights on each side that seamlessly connect with the front grille. Moreover, it features a front bumper to deliver a dynamic look.
Technical specs
BYD’s Yuan Up will reportedly come with two powertrain configurations, including the 70 kW and 130 kW motors.
The curb weight also varies depending on the powertrain version, ranging from 1430 kg to 1540 kg. It also has a 160 km/h top speed.
BYD has yet to reveal more details about the new Yuan Up model, which may occur near its market launch.
Estimated pricing
As mentioned, the BYD Yuan Up will enter the same SUV class and size range as the Dolphin. Therefore, it will likely sell at the same price range as its electric hatchback sibling.
For context, the BYD Dolphin currently sells from RMB 116,800 ($16,465) to RMB 139,800 ($19,700). In that sense, the BYD Yuan Up may sell between RMB 100,000 ($14,100) and RMB 150,000 ($21,150).
Chinese publication CnEVPost reported that the Yuan family’s sales reached a total of 428,580 units in 2023. This sales figure accounted for 14% of the company’s overall vehicle sales.
BYD apparently plans to launch the new Yuan Up in March, backing the brand’s goals to dominate the compact SUV segment. Its affordable pricing will also surely attract more customers, further boosting BYD’s sales this year.
