China’s leading automaker BYD confirmed plans to introduce multiple EV models from its official brand and sub-brand Denza at the upcoming IAA Mobility in Munich, Europe.
BYD’s global footprint
The Chinese EV and power battery giant continues to report record-breaking production and sales numbers domestically and globally.
It has also been expanding across the world. In fact, BYD has already penetrated 400 cities in 70+ foreign countries.
BYD announced its plans to penetrate new Japanese markets in the summer of 2022. Just ten days after, it was already pursuing the European EV industry.
In October 2022, BYD said it would launch the Seal EV in Europe by 2023 to join the Atto 3.
Now, the Chinese automaker has even more exciting news for its customers. It will finally begin selling the highly-awaited Seal EV in the region. At the same time, it will also launch the new Denza sub-brand.
What to expect?
Denza sub-brand
BYD will debut its luxury sub-brand Denza at the IAA Mobility in Munich, which will be from September 5 to 10.
For context, Denza was a long-standing joint venture between the Chinese automaker and Daimler AG in 2010. However, they could only develop one EV model in the initial years of the JV.
Daimler reduced its share in Denza to 10%. Nonetheless, the JV continues to sell two all-electric models in China, including the MPV D9.
Interestingly, the Denza D9 is apparently the model that will arrive in Europe next month. However, Denza has yet to reveal its sales schedule in the region.
BYD brand
Apart from the Denza D9, BYD will also debut several EV models from its own brand in the European automotive industry. Some of these EVs include the new BYD Seal.
Automotive News reported that the Seal EV will offer two battery configurations.
The Comfort variant will use a 71.8 kWh BYD Blade Battery that supports a WLTP-estimated driving range of 420km (260 miles). Meanwhile, the Design variant will feature an 87 kWh battery pack with a maximum range of 500km (310 miles).
