Chinese electric automaker BYD appears to be bringing its North American expansion effort to a whole new level. The EV giant has successfully delivered the first batch of Yuan Plus EVs (also known as Atto 3) in Mexico, totaling 100 units.
According to the Weibo post, three Mexican distributors with physical stores collectively fulfilled the first batch of deliveries: Continental, Dalton, and Liverpool.
About the Yuan Plus
BYD first introduced the Yuan PlusEV in its home market in mid-February. It marks the company’s first A-class SUV model to use the new e-platform 3.0. It also utilizes BYD’s renowned blade batteries, which offer a longer range and fast charging features.
Apart from these, BYD Yuan Plus also has a 150 kW electric motor, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.3 seconds. It also uses a 60 kWh battery capacity, allowing for an NEDC-estimated range of 480 km (298 mi). Additionally, it boasts a 29-minute fast charging (30% to 80%) capability.
As for the interior, the BYD Yuan Plus has a 15.6-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has over-the-air (OTA) update capability.

North American expansion is arguably crucial for BYD as the region is a significant EV market and has been a key focus for Tesla. Expanding into North America would allow BYD to tap into a large customer base and take advantage of the increasing demand for EVs in the region. By capturing a share of the North American market, BYD can significantly boost its sales and revenue, potentially surpassing Tesla in terms of market presence.
