Apollo Future Mobility Group seems to be making a shift as it unveiled a vehicle that differed significantly from its limited production hypercars, as per AutoBlog. The Apollo G2J prototype is a completely electric sportscar that serves as a teaser for future Apollo products’ design and technology.
The G2J Engineering Prototype has been in the works for almost two years. According to the automaker, teams from Germany and Japan are collaborating on the project. Meanwhile, the German R&D team is spearheading the endeavor.
It is worth noting that Apollo is concentrated on lightweight and composite materials, and many prototype sections are made of carbon fiber.
“(The G2J) will underpin a highly exciting and anticipated suite of new electric performance vehicles,” Eric Ho, Apollo’s chairman, said in a statement. “The beautiful form of this test car is just a hint of the future design of a series of performance cars that will take the Apollo hypercar DNA and apply it to create the most exciting sporting focused EVs on the planet.”
G2J is currently going through a testing phase for refinement and validation in critical areas like the electric powertrain, connectivity, and “digital ecosystem technologies,” as per CarScoops. The report also provided its basic features.
“The exterior is characterized by sculpted surfaces, pronounced fenders, a low nose, modern-styled LED lighting units, dual intakes on both ends, butterfly doors, camera-replacing mirrors, and a rear-mounted charging port. Inside the two-seater cabin, we find plenty of exposed carbon fiber, Alcantara upholstery, leather accents, a digital instrument cluster, and a floating center console. Overall, the G2J looks like it is close to production status in terms of design, technology, and materials, despite being an engineering prototype.”
According to Apollo, the prototype does not represent the design of the company’s first electric car. Simply put, the model is being used to craft aerodynamics and test dimensions for the company’s first electric sports vehicle. Other Apollo models, such as the IE and Project EVO, will serve as inspiration for future cars.
In retrospect, Roland Gumpert used to own Apollo until departing in late 2016. Over the years, the business has showcased some outstanding supercars, including the Apollo Arrow and Intensa Emozione.
Notably, Intensa Emozione was developed in collaboration with HWA AG, the same company that assisted Mercedes in developing the CLK-GTR.
On the other hand, Apollo claims it will unveil its first electric sports vehicle concept in Q4 of 2022. In terms of pricing, its vehicles have so far been prohibitively expensive. For instance, the Arrow costs approximately $1 million. This implies that an entirely new electric supercar will not be inexpensive.
In retrospect, Apollo announced its plan to develop luxury electric vehicles in August, as per Motor Authority. During the 2021 China International Import Expo, the automaker unveiled the EVision S coupe concept.
Meanwhile, Apollo’s first production-bound EV is set to be revealed at the 2022 Guangzhou auto show in November. It is reportedly a roadster that the company intends to sell in early 2024.
